About me
I have been teaching aural rehabilitative course including speechreading for over 20 years, and I feel very passionately about their importance in helping individuals with hearing loss live successfully. My background has provided me with the necessary education and experience to teach these skills to adults with hearing loss.
I grew up in St. John's, NL, and completed my B.Sc. in Psychology and Linguistics at Memorial University in 1991. I moved to Vancouver in the early '90s and earned my M.Sc. in Audiology from UBC in 1995. My interest in helping those with hearing loss beyond hearing aids led me to complete a Ph.D. in Audiology at UBC in 2002, focusing specifically on this area.
My work has allowed me to continuously develop and expand courses providing students with opportunities to practice and refine their skills.
In 2016, I completed a Provincial Instructors' Diploma Program, where I gained knowledge in curriculum development, assessment, instructional techniques, and other areas that enhance my ability to support adult learners. i switched to teaching primarily online in 2020 - the online format has proven to be effective and accessible, and I am delighted to have participants from diverse geographical locations. To ensure an optimal online experience for everyone, I have also completed a certificate in eLearning.
